Our Choirs

The Society has three major Choirs of varying age ranges and singing a wide range of music.

MAIN CHOIR

CONTEMPORARY CHORAL
This group, formed in 1999, by our Former Musical Director, Robyn Morris, comprises young adults aged over 18 years. Many of the group are also in the Main Choir. Their musical focus tends to be more contemporary in taste and includes the very rhythmic music from the Jazz era.
Musical Director: Nerida Eckert

HARMONICS

For Secondary school student members of the Youth Choir. This choir provides an opportunity for members to learn more challenging repertoire.

Conductor: Vicki Bravery

Accompanist: Christine Lebsanft

Practice Times: Tuesday. 6.45 – 7.30

YOUTH CHOIR

For students Aged 11 to end of Year 12. The Choir provides a widely varied program of training and performance. Choir Members develop an interest in the skills of choral singing and in aural musicianship. This is of great benefit in building self-confidence and in learning about teamwork. Members make friends with other young people who share similar interests and all in an atmosphere of fun. We recognise that many choir members have multiple commitments and we like to keep performance commitments at a level that makes it possible to have the best level of participation from members. The highlight of the year for Youth Choir and Harmonics is the June/July Holiday activity. This activity involves 100 students with the Principals rehearsing for two weeks and the chorus for the second week culminating in two performances at the Empire Theatre

Conductor: Vicki Bravery

Accompanist: Christine Lebsanft

Practice Times: Tuesday 5.30 – 6.45

HUMMINGBIRDS

For students aged 5 to 10 years. This choir is an opportunity

for young singers to build their pitch and listening skills and for some of the children this is also an opportunity to build choir skills in  relation to attention and performance. Parents are encouraged to stay for the duration of Hummingbirds. Hummingbirds Choir members are invited to stay for the first 15 minutes of the Youth Choir. Some students will be able to graduate to the Youth Choir at the conductor’s discretion.

Conductor: Grace Elliott and Tim Ley

Accompanist: Bryony Lanigan
